Venus Williams - French Open 2010

This is the five time Wimbledon Champion Venus Williams 15th time of trying to win the French Open Tennis Championships, so far winning at Roland Garros has so far eluded her with a final appearance in 2002 her bets performance to date. She first played here as a gangly, but powerful looking girl who had only just turned 17 years old. She reached the 2nd round that year but managed to make the Quarter final the following year where she lost to Martina Hingis. She has made three further quarter finals but her best performance was in 2002 when she lost in the final to younger sister, Serena. It has become apparent over the years that Venus does tend to struggle slightly on the clay, the movement is the main problem with her and as such she is not one of the favourites to win the trophy.

Venus clearly has not given up on the idea of winning a French Open though and will no doubt head to Paris ready to give it her all once again in 2010. For someone as powerful as her and with great accuracy from the baseline and serve it is a surprise that she has not acquitted herself more emphatically at this tournament.

Venus has actually shown some good form on the clay this season, she reached the final in Madrid last week before losing out to Aravene Rezai in an encouraging performance. If she can repeat that form in Roland Garros then she could go well in Paris and if Venus gets some confidence she will prove very dangerous at the French Open.
